Ben Gordon Obituary

The Legacy of Life

Mr. Ben Willie Gordon

March 30, 1953 – March 26, 2026

Mr. Ben Willie Gordon, 71, was born on March 30, 1953, in Screven County to the late Fred Douglas Gordon and Bertha Mae Jacob Gordon.  He attended the public schools in Screven County and was a graduate of the Screven County High Class of 1971. He was active in many academic and social activities and earned the joint title of top scholar in his graduating class.  He was also a diligent employee at the Former King Finishing Company.

Ben joined the Springhead United Methodist Church at an early age and served faithfully in several capacities for many years, among those were Sunday school superintendent, a member of the choir, class leader, and President and Vice president of the United Methodist Men. Although he was a member of Springhead, he also attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church.  Health issues rendered him unable to actively participate physically in the later years of his life, but he still maintained an “active membership” and supporter in his church.

He was united in holy matrimony shortly after graduating high school to the former Carolyn Kittles and to their beloved union two children were born.  He was a loving father and actively participated in their lives. Notably, he was active in the community as an Assistant Scout Master for the Local Boy Scout troop in which his sons were members.

Ben loved to read, play checkers and was the go-to person with updates on world news and current events.  He loved to sing, listen to “old school music”, but also loved to listen to and sing gospel music.

He was called to eternal rest on March 26, 2025.  He was preceded in death by his parents Fred D. Gordon, Bertha Mae Gordon, Brother, John W. Gordon, and his son Felipe M. Gordon.

He leaves to forever cherish his loving character and contagious smile, his wife of 53 years, Carolyn K. Gordon, and son Nakia R. Gordon, both of Sylvania, GA, son, Craig (Yolanda) McCall, Jacksonville, FL.
