Mr. Curtis Lee Whitehead, Sr., 86, was born to the late Deacon Enoch and Mrs. Annie Laura Clark Whitehead on October 8, 1936, in Millen Georgia.
Curtis received his early spiritual upbringings at the Dicky Grove Baptist Church in Sylvania, Georgia. He also received his formal education at the Jenkins County public schools.
At the age of sixteen Curtis moved to New York and worked as a day laborer until he began his career at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He worked until he retired as a Master Rigger.
Curtis lived a fulfilling life. He enjoyed many afternoons barbequing with his friends and family during the summer months as well as late night chats with his siblings.
On Monday December 26, 2022, Mr. Curtis Lee Whitehead, Sr., completed his life’s journey at the Peninsula Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Queens, NY.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents: Deacon Enoch and Mrs. Annie Laura Whitehead, a daughter Laura Renee Whitehead, siblings: Charles (CE) Whitehead, Willie Whitehead, Enoch Whitehead Jr., and Ina Whitener.
Curtis leaves behind to cherish his memory Children: Steven Whitehead, Vincent Irby (Daisy Irby), Curtis Whitehead Jr., Kenneth Whitehead, Jeffrey Whitehead (Altrecia Whitehead), Curtis Whitehead Jr. II and Kevin Whitehead; Brothers and Sisters: Rayford Whitehead, Abraham (AJ) Whitehead, Carlton Whitehead, Jessietain Washington (Edward Washington) and Mary (May Frances) Lattimore. Life partner, Julia Latham; Grandchildren, Devon Whitehead, Jamel Hicks, Vinique Irby, Jarrell Whitehead, Danique Irby and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
