Elizabeth Brown Obituary

The Legacy of Life

Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Brown

(September 22, 1959 – February 25, 2023)

Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Brown, 63, was born to the late Deacon Jerzell “Jake” Scott, Sr., and the late Mrs. Emma Hagins Scott on September 22, 1959, in Screven County.

A passionate believer in Jesus Christ, Elizabeth began her early Christian upbringings at Cypress Pond Baptist Church (CPBC). She attended faithfully from her childhood up until the time of her passing. Elizabeth proudly served as the CPBC Youth Choir Director where she instilled a joy of gospel music into children of all ages. Elizabeth also directed countless choir anniversaries that drew other choirs from across the State of Georgia and surrounding areas.

Elizabeth proudly continued the legacy of her mother, Mrs. Emma, through her faithful service as the District #1 Voting Poll Manager in Hiltonia, Georgia over many years. In this role, she helped to ensure that the citizens of District #1 could exercise their right to vote in a safe, fair, and respectful environment.  As further demonstration of her fervent commitment to the development of children, Mrs. Elizabeth proudly served as the President of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Association (PMBA) Youth Department for several years. In this esteemed position, Elizabeth helped to create a multitude of opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive in their families and in the community. Elizabeth was also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). A lifelong educator, Elizabeth selflessly devoted fifteen years of service to the children she taught at the Pittman Park Education Center (PPEC) in Statesboro, Georgia. She truly enjoyed her career and genuinely adored every child she had the privilege to teach. Prior to joining her PPEC family, Elizabeth also served as a Preschool teacher at the Weaver’s Play and Learn Center in Sylvania, Georgia for many years. Elizabeth thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her large family, serving her community, and eating seafood at every possible opportunity.  Elizabeth attended Screven County High School and graduated as a member of the Class of 1977. She subsequently obtained degrees in Cosmetology and Early Childhood Education.

On Saturday Morning February 25, 2023, Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Brown completed this life’s journey and traded it for life in eternity.  May the work that she’s done forever speak for her.  Now she rests from her labors……

Elizabeth leaves behind to cherish her loving memories and to continue her legacy her loving husband: Mr.  Walter Brown, III; her three adoring daughters: Lieutenant Colonel Octavia R.
