Mr. John Willie Smith Jr. was born July 27, 1960 to the late John Willie Smith, Sr. and Catherine Backey in Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia. He departed this life April 17, 2022 in Sylvania, Georgia.
John attended the Public School System of Screven County. He was a truck driver for over thirty-five years until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Willie Smith, Sr.
John leaves to cherish fond memories: His wife of thirty-seven years, Annie Gail Cox Smith; his mother, Catherine Lawton; his children; John Willie (Ashia) Smith, III of Sylvania, Georgia and Tiffany Smith of Statesboro, Georgia; his step-daughter whom he raised as his own, Laveem Pierce of New Jersey; his grandchildren, Christopher Hartfield of New York, Trevor Gordon of Wahiawa, Hawaii, and Jeremiah and Makayla Middleton both of Sylvania, Georgia; his siblings, Betty Smith of Brunswick, Georgia, Leroy and Willie James Smith both of Sylvania, Georgia; his mother-in-law, Cora Lockett of Millen, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Tyrone (Keyla) Lockett of Millen, Georgia and Moses (Frances) Lockett of Sylvania, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Georgia (Michael) Boyd of Sylvania, Georgia; his aunts, Louise Scott of Tamarac, Florida, Alveara (Robert) Holt, Elizabeth (James) Edwards and Eva (Vasco) Skeete of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; his uncles, Grady Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Willie J. Scott, Jr. of St. Augustine, Florida; his great uncle, Tom Jones of Savannah, Georgia; like a son, Melvin Gaines; cousins, like siblings, Joyce Jones and Thomas Jones; special friends, Ronnie Johnson, Morris Herrington, Wayne Brown, Lynn Rock, Darnell Benton and Daniel Morris; he also leaves a host of cousins other relatives and friends.
