Juliette “Queenie” Kemp, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 12, 2025. She was born on May 19, 1942, in Saluda, South Carolina, to the late Allie Werts and Holland Howard.
Juliette was a woman of strength, compassion, and unwavering faith. After relocating to New Jersey, she began a long and distinguished career with New Jersey Bell—now known as Verizon—where she dedicated 37 years of service before retiring. Her commitment to excellence and her warm spirit made her beloved among her colleagues and respected by all who knew her.
Following her retirement from Verizon, Juliette followed her passion for nurturing others by becoming a teacher. For 25 years, she inspired and guided countless young minds, continuing her lifelong commitment to service and community. In addition to her professional work, Juliette opened her heart and home as a foster mother to 19 children, providing love, stability, and hope to each one.
Juliette made her home in Newark, New Jersey, where she shared a beautiful life with her late husband, Herbert H. Kemp. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, and perseverance. After many cherished years in Newark, they later relocated to Sylvania, Georgia.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert H. Kemp; her daughter, Betthita Jones; and her three brothers, Sawab Howard, Wazir Howard, and James Howard.
Juliette leaves to cherish her memory her devoted grandson, Christopher C. Jones, two loving stepsons, Herbert K. Kemp (Tamara) and Randy Kemp (LoDonna); grandchildren Aaron Kemp, Marcus Kemp, and Makaila Kemp; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Juliette “Queenie” Kemp will be remembered for her warm smile, generous heart, and the countless lives she touched through her love and service. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and family devotion will live on in all who had the honor of knowing her.
