Mother Leola Bush Gaines

November 26, 1926 – October 12, 2023

Mother Leola Bush Gaines, 96, was born November 26, 1926, in Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Johnny and Mrs. Sudie Simon Bush. Her parents died when she was very young, and she was reared by the late George and Annie Simon. 

At an early age Leola accepted Christ and became a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.  Later in life she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Minus Gaines, Sr., and to this beloved union, they were blessed with three children.

Leola was a beautiful soul and loved by all who knew her.  To know her was to love her.  She loved the Lord and her family.  On Thursday morning, October 12, 2023, our Heavenly Father beckoned her weary soul to eternal rest following an extended illness at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and surrounded by her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leola was also predeceased by a daughter, Annie Lee Williams and several sisters and brothers.

She leaves to cherish fond memories and continue her beautiful legacy her son: Minus Gaines, Jr. and her daughter: Sallie Cooper both of Sylvania, GA; her grandchildren, Demetrius, Jennifer, Angela, Michael, Tyrone, Pamela, Jesse and Landing, her great grands, her bonus daughter, Gwendolyn Evans; her sister, Eva (Walter) Fulcher; her sister-n-law: Alberta Frazier; her daughter-in-law: Serena Gaines, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
