Mr. Rufus Gordon, Sr.
January 29, 1931 – February 24, 2022

MR. RUFUS GORDON, SR., 91, was born on January 29, 1931, to the late Charlie O. Gordon and Sophie Sampson in Screven County, GA.
He was educated in the Screven County public school system and was employed as a construction worker the most of his life. Later in life he relocated to Newark, NJ, where resided until his health declined. Afterward, he came back to Sylvania.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Bertha L. Benton in May of 1952. To this beloved union seven children were born.
On Thursday February 24, 2022, God summoned Mr. Rufus Gordon, Sr., home to eternal rest at the Pineview (Sylview) Healthcare Center of Sylvania, GA, following an extended illness.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Bertha Benton Gordon, two children Jacquelyn White and Melody Williams, a sister Mary L. Gordon, and a Great grandson, Jordan Dockery.
His life and legacy will continue to live on through his children: (2) Sons: Rufus (Rebecca) Gordon, Jr., Oliver, GA, and John C. Gordon of Savannah, GA; (3) Daughters: Carolyn Gordon and Renea (Jerone) Bell, both of Statesboro, GA, and Dianne Lewis of Sylvania, GA; 22 Grandchildren, 40 Great Grands, 5 Great-great grands along with a host of cousins, other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
