Mr. Shaft Wardell Gardner

(June 24, 1975 – February 19, 2022)

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Mr. Shaft Wardell Gardner, 46, was born on June 24, 1975, to Rosanna Oliver-Jones and Wardell Carter Gardner in Augusta, GA.

            Shaft was educated in the Screven County Public school system.  He was employed at MI in Millen, GA, for several years before starting his own trucking business Gardner’s Trucking.  He was a dedicated employee of California Cartage Express of Savannah, GA, where he was loved by many.

            Shaft hobbies consisted of customizing cars, installing music systems, and being the clown of the family. He also enjoyed traveling.  He was joined in Holy matrimony to the love of his life Ms.  Sonya Simon on November 18, 2020.  Together they remained devoted and united in love until the end.

            On Saturday February 19, 2022, God summoned Mr. Shaft Wardell Gardner to eternal rest at Atrium Health of Charlotte, NC, following a brief illness.

            The memory of him being a devoted husband, the family clown, and just an all-around family man will forever live in the hearts and minds of those who will always love and miss him.

            He leaves to cherish his legacy his devoted wife: Sonya Simon Gardner (6) Children: Shaft Gardner, Jr., Statesboro, GA, Jeramiah Gardner, Sylvania, GA, Nigel (Alicia) Simon, Atlanta, GA, Niesa Simon, Girand, GA, Bridgett (Keon) Ruffin, Millen, GA, and Xavier Simon, Newington, GA; (1) Adopted Daughter: Sharneria -Wright of Statesboro, GA; His Father Wardell (Vivian) Gardner and Mother: Rosanna Oliver-Jones; His Grandfather: Percell Gordon of St. Petersburg, FL; His Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Thomas and Annie Mae Simon; (3) Sisters: Terrinise (Unrico) Lloyd, Clarissa Gardner (Deondrick) Warren, and Lashonda Gardner Kirkland, (2) Brothers: Juwan Gardner and Johndrick Burton; (2) Bonus Brothers: Melvin Scott and Terrell Brigham; (2) Bonus Sisters: Nikki Brigham and Melinda Scott; (2) Sisters-in-law; Stephanie Simon and Shannon Simon both of Statesboro, GA; (6) Grandchildren including the late Jermiah Gardner (deceased: January 04, 2021); Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
