Sidney Johnson, Jr. Obituary

The Legacy of Life

Mr. Sidney Johnson, Jr.

(May 08, 1955 – December 22, 2022)

Sidney Johnson Jr., affectionately called “Jr.”, and “Unga Bunga”, by the family, was born May 8,1955, in Glenville, Tattnall County, Ga. to the late Mr. Sidney Sr., and Mrs. Bernice Bryant Johnson.  A few years later the family moved to Screven County Ga (Over Briar Creek) where he attended the Annie E. Daniels Elementary School.

It was determined here that he required special education training,

In 1967 his mom and siblings moved to Brooklyn NY where his training continued.  He never let that stop him from doing or working whenever and wherever he could.  He mastered the art of shining shoes and kept money in his pocket, He also fathered a set of twins that did not survive long.

In 1981 he & mom returned home and he attended the Screven Task & Golden Generations Facilities.  There he learned how to cut grass, crochet, cook, clean, pay bills and other life skills, but nothing compared to his favorite pastime that started with his dad... FISHING!!!  Sidney would fish all day and all night if possible. He always seemed to find the perfect spot and hardly ever came home empty handed. He could be seen riding around town on his bike, lawnmower or golfcart to get to these places.  He even had a few spots to set his coon traps.  Because he was a hunter too.

Sidney lived a simple yet full life, He loved life, his family and his church, He was very devoted to our mom. He'd take his nieces and nephews on walks and even.... you guessed it.......FISHING!

He was a dedicated member of St, Andrews UMC.  You never had to wonder who'd be ushering Sunday because he was ALWAYS posted at the door.  He took his job seriously.  He was the lawn caretaker, a member of the Sunday School, United Methodist Men, the Elijah Promise food pantry team until his health failed.

Although he was in and out of the hospital, he, like our mom, never complained.  On Thursday December 22, 2022, he peacefully slipped away to his eternal home in his sleep just as our mother did.

We all loved Sidney, but God loved him best.

He leaves to cherish his memories Aunt Birdie M. Oliver, Jacksonville, Fl. Aunts in love Carrie, Rita and Nellie Bryant. Siblings Rosa Bridgeport CT. Wendell Statesboro GA, Brenda Sylvania GA and Melvin (Red) Staten Island NY.  Nieces & Nephews Kevin, Tyisha, Monique, Laquon, Teresa, Chris & Tymell of NY, Tyshawn & Tyquan of Bridgeport and Rudy of ATL. 15 Great and 4 Great Greats along with a host of cousins other relatives and sorrowing friends that loved him dearly.
